Asher Dust - T-shirt design

Posted by roryroryrory at 15:15 0 comments

We're digging into the archives with this one. Done several years ago, a T-shirt design for Asher Dust, an Oxford hiphop chap, formerly of "Big Speakers" (whom I also did a T-shirt design for and will endevour to dig out for one and all to peruse).

Aesops Fables - The old man and death

Trying to motivate a couple of friends to do some artwork, I've been setting some briefs. Aesop's always a winner and I thought I'd join in and give it a go too, here's "The Old Man and Death".

******************

An old labourer, bent double with age and toil, was gathering sticks in a forest. At last he grew so tired and hopeless that he threw down the bundle of sticks, and cried out: "I cannot bear this life any longer. Ah, I wish Death would only come and take me!

As he spoke, Death, a grisly skeleton, appeared and said to him: "What wouldst thou, Mortal? I heard thee call me."

"Please, sir," replied the woodcutter, "would you kindly help me to lift this faggot of sticks on to my shoulder?"

We would often be sorry if our wishes were gratified.

Koi Magazine - May 2008

This was a great commission, to illustrate 10 different points about looking after your Koi carp. I just got a copy sent through the post, and was suitably pleased to occupy a whopping 6 pages with full colour BIG pictures. This is the kind of job I love.

Step 1 - Keep an eye on the weather.

Step 5 - Monitor stress levels.

Step 8 - Use treatments sparingly.

Christmas Card - 2007

Festive greetings! Slightly out of date I know, but there's no time like the present, especially when it comes to unwrapping the illustrative gifts of seasons past. Last year I finally got around to creating a christmas card, AND, getting it printed, something I've been planning on doing so for many years, but never gotten around to it. At last, my legion of admirers have something tangible to hold in their own hands. Tears are wept, and hands are thrust skyward with joy upon the opening of, etc etc etc...

Building Design Magazine (Issue 14's Supplement) - Feb 2008

I had just discovered the new swimming centre that's been built for the 2008 Olympics, that looks a little like bubble wrap, and was honoured to be commissioned to create an illustration for an architectural magazine called "Building Design Magazine" to accompany a piece on the future of schooling. I decided to take the bubble-wrap idea and install it in the ceiling of my futuristic school.

My illustration.

Issue 39 of Advanced Photoshop Magazine - Jan 2008

I managed to wangle a double page spread in the January issue of Advanced Photoshop Magazine. I showed a recent portfolio of work and told the readership a little about myself. I was ever so excited when I got sent a copy just after christmas!

Dragons Blood Pirates Book 1 - pencils and inks - Hatchette Australia

Posted by roryroryrory at 04:26 0 comments
Here's a couple of pages from the first of a series of 6 pirate story books that I'm working on for Hatchette in Australia. They're all chapter books, meaning that there's a B&W drawing every couple of pages to help the reader along with the story. I'm loving drawing these. They're ace!

I've put in the pencil rough and the finished line work so you can see how things progress.
